Highly acclaimed violinist Marina Reshetova, the award winner of the International Violin Competition and a constant participant of many music festivals, started to practice violin from an early age, and held her first solo concert already at the age of 9. Marina completed her studies at the prestigious St. Petersburg Conservatory under the tutelage of Prof. B. Gutnikov and Prof. W. Ovcharek. At the age of 18, Marina made a sensational debut as a soloist with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductor Vasily Sinaisky. She gained international recognition in 1990, having been awarded with the prize at the International Violin Competition in Moscow. Marina performs both as a solo artist, and together with famous musicians, does jazz improvisations with Nigel Kennedy and for many years collaborated with Mstislav Rostropovich. After touring though Argentina, with the quartet of Giora Feidman Marina took part in the recording of the concert program on the television channels ARTE and SWR. Currently Marina is leading the “Marina Quintet”, shows great interest in theater projects and writes music for musicals and theatre plays. A program of the quintet “Passion del mar” celebrated its premiere in one of Germany’s most prestigious concert halls – the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg. Marina lives in Hamburg, tours a lot and gives concerts in Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa.
Marina’s repertoire is extraordinarily wide, from graceful classical music of Bach and Vivaldi to temperamental works of Edward Elgar and Astor Piazzolla and energetic rhythms and unshakable passion of Spanish and gypsy melodies, from outspoken Klezmer lyrics to modern jazz improvisations. Her program can unite seemingly irreconcilable musical styles, is distinguished by bright energy and theatrical show. The program of the quintet “Passion del Mar” includes gypsy melodies, tango and klezmer.
